Another goal-feast from the Hornets saw them brush aside Welwyn to claim an emphatic and well-deserved win. They dominated from start to finish and could have scored many more.
James recorded a personal milestone with his first goal for the team to open the scoring. He was in the right place at the right time when the keeper parried Vinay’s long-range shot and he slotted home the rebound. William had an outstanding game in centre midfield – running, tackling and passing with great energy – and a jinking run and sharp pass released Sam Hart to double the lead just before half-time. Will was unfortunate not to score a deserved goal when he got on the end of Sam’s great cross but could not keep his header down.
The second half saw more Hitchin pressure. Goals from Sam Hart are like London buses. We wait four weeks for one and then 8 come along in quick succession. After last week’s five goals, he completed a hat-trick in the second half, pouncing on a poor clearance to make it 3-0 and then crashing home a shot from a Will pass to make it 4. The only weak spot in his game was the absence of any theatrical goal celebrations this week – this is something he needs to work on! More good work from Will set up Vinay and his sharp turn and shot from inside the box made it 5.
Great team performances all round. Max, Oliver and Kai dealt comfortably with sporadic Welwyn attacks and allowed Sam Hen to have a quiet game in goal. Samuel helped William maintain Hitchin’s dominance in midfield with an energetic and committed second-half performance.
With 13 goals in a week, the Hornets are flying. Like the Hurricanes, they are running into form just in time for the pre-Christmas period when the games come thick and fast.
