Stevenage Tigers U7 v Hitchin U7 - 15 March 2008

Just one longer game for the boys this week against an impressive Stevenage team who survived a second-half Hitchin fight back to run out 4-1 winners.

Hitchin continued their recent good starts by piling pressure on Stevenage in the first five minutes and deservedly went ahead when Daniel’s shot from the edge of the box zipped past the keeper to make it 1-0. William played with energy and skill and took the game to Stevenage with a number of strong runs but the team struggled to retain possession in midfield. Stevenage gradually came back into the game and dominated the rest of the first half. Jonathan, Sam Henshaw and Patrick made some great tackles and interceptions and Kane made some super saves, the pick of which saw him race across his line to palm away a goal bound shot. However, Stevenage had some excellent speedy and skilful forwards and when they found space, their finishing was clinical. Kane had no chance with any of the goals and the visitors were deservedly 3-1 ahead at half time.

The second half was more evenly contested. It is a tribute to the boys that even when they go behind they don’t led their heads go down and stop trying. The team had much more shape and passed the ball well, keeping possession and building attacks. A host of chances were created but unfortunately a few clear chances were missed and Stevenage scored a break away goal in the final few minutes to seal their victory.

Once again, a very good effort against talented and impressive opponents who took their chances well.
