Hitchin Hurricanes 4 Stevenage Borough Tigers 0
Royston Crow League B, 8th May 2011

The Hurricanes rounded off their league season with a comfortable win over Stevenage Tigers in their last ever mini soccer game at Ickleford.

The boys were always in control of the match and continued their good end-of-season form with a sixth win in seven games.

After a quiet start from both teams, Hitchin broke the deadlock when a cross from the right from Joel was unfortunately diverted into the net by a Tigers defender for an own goal. It was two just before half-time when a Somerset lay-off on the edge of the area was drilled into the net by Joel.

The Tigers came into the game in the second half and Sam, Max and Kai had to be alert to clear a number of close-calls. But Hitchin always looked dangerous on the break and Somerset came very close to making it 3 – sent clear, he rounded the keeper but ran out of pitch. Joel then made it 3-0 after a crunching tackle by Kane on the halfway line, his quick pass found Joel’s run and he calmly skipped around the keeper and slotted into an unguarded net. With seconds remaining on the clock, Joel completed his hat-trick, with a clinical finish after a neat through ball from Will.

Man of the match: - Joel – always lively and dangerous – great finishing for his hat-trick.

Team: - Sam Hart, Patrick, Max, Kane, Will, Joel, Somerset, Kai
