Hitchin Hornets 0 St Neots B 0
Royston Crow League, 21st March 2009

When these two teams met at Ickleford in October, St Neots won 6-1. That the Hornets claimed a deserved draw and could have secured an away win speaks volumes about the strides they are making. St Neots retained a number of players from the first game and used a long-ball game to put pressure on Hitchin’s defence. However, they continually ran into Jonathan and Oliver who were both outstanding. Jonathan continued his recent rich vein of form and Oliver provided superb support. They were undaunted against some physically larger opponents and the quality of their tackling and covering was very high. Kane had an impressive game in goal and made one particularly eye-catching save in the second-half when he seemed to grow about three feet to pluck a goal-bound lob from just under the bar. Patrick and Sam Henshaw took turns in the centre-midfield role and each made some incisive runs and looked to pass out to lively forwards, Vinnay,  Kai and James. All three had half-chances to score and went close with a number of shots. Even the introduction of Will as a late substitute couldn’t break the deadlock but it was still a very commendable draw against good opponents.

Team: Kane, Jonathan, Oliver, Kai, Vinnay, Patrick, James subs: William, Sam Hen
