A goal in each half gave Royston a second win of the day against a Hornets team that struggled to create clear-cut chances. After an even first 10 minutes with defences on top. Royston took the lead, with a powerful shot from just inside the area. A minute later, Hitchin came close to an equaliser as a Ryan shot thudded against the post. The last action of the half saw Max make an excellent goal-line clearance to keep the deficit at 1-0.
The second half had an end of season feel to it as both teams struggled to create any openings and there was little goalmouth action. Sam Hartnack led the line well and was a willing runner but Royston defended well. They doubled their lead with five minutes to go, a shot from outside the area taking a wicked deflection and leaving Kane helpless as he watched it roll into the net.
