Pin Green Juniors B 2 Hitchin Hornets 0
Royston Crow League, 20 September 2008

Like the Hurricanes, the Hornets were unfortunate not to take a point from their trip to Pin Green. They had slightly the better of possession in a tight game but failed to take their chances and conceded a goal in each half.

They attacked from the start using the slope to create real pressure. Vinay, Somerset and Samuel dominated the midfield and used the ball cleverly to release lone striker James three times in the opening half. Full credit to the Pin Green defence – they were alert to danger and managed to close down quickly and efficiently. Pin Green led at the break.

Jonathan replaced Sam Hen in goal for the second half and Sam was very influential after the break. His strong, determined runs and skilful dribbling energised the team. Samuel was very effective at winning the ball with some hard, but fair tackles and Oliver was full of running as the Hornets strived to get back in the game. Chances were created but the ball just would not go in.

Pin Green doubled the lead with a classic breakaway goal as Hitchin left gaps at the back.  A defeat but a very narrow one against strong opponents - the team can take many positives from the game.

Squad: Sam Hen, Max, Samuel, Jonathan, Somerset, James, Vinay, Oliver
