Hitchin Hurricanes 0 Letchworth Reds 2
Royston Crow League A, 13th February 2011

The Hurricanes slipped to their first home defeat in any competition since September 2008 after a dominant second-half display from the visitors clinched a deserved victory.

The first half was an absorbing game, with very little to choose between the teams. Both teams played good passing football and closed down space which limited clear-cut opportunities. Somerset had the clearest sight of goal for the Hurricanes midway through the half when he raced clear of his marker but his shot was well-saved by the Reds keeper. At the other end, Sam, Max and Patrick dealt with Letchworth’s attacks without too many alarms.

The boys struggled to get going after the break. They lost their shape and their passing lacked its usual crispness as they struggled to make any headway against a very impressive Letchworth defence. Letchworth began to dominate possession and territory and took the lead midway through the half. A long throughball into the Hitchin area was cleared by Sam but the rebound gave him little chance to save. Hitchin kept probing, looking for an equaliser but Letchworth always looked the more likely to score and the match was settled in the last minute when a shot from the left side of the area beat Sam, hit the post and the rebound was knocked in for 2-0.

Congratulations to the Reds and good luck for the rest of the season.
