On a warm Sunday morning and with only the minor league places up for grabs the Hurricanes made the short journey to local rivals Letchworth.
On a pitch that wasn’t conducive to the ‘beautiful game’ both teams sought to play passing football and the first half passed by quickly with the battle won by the defenders. There were very few chances created by either team and credit must be given to both defences. Max had a new partner this week in the form of Sam Hart and the pair of them along with able assistance from Kane and Joel made sure that Sam Hen had a quiet half in goal.
Somerset again worked tirelessly up front, holding the ball up and looking to supply the willing runs of Will and Joel. Kane and Somerset both had long range efforts but with the heat taking its toll the half time whistle was greatly received.
The second half was almost a replica of the first and it always looked as though a single goal would be enough to win it for either team.
Early in the half the Hurricanes won a corner, Joel delivered the perfect ball to meet Kane’s run and his bullet header made it 1-0. The Eagles were woken by the goal and began to apply pressure on the Hitchin defence and on the one occasion they were beaten, the ball came back off the crossbar.
Yet again, it was a close game with the result in the balance until the final whistle. Full credit to both teams in warm conditions and who knows, with two positive semi-final results they could meet again in the Cup Final.
