Hitchin Hornets 6 Knebworth Blues 0
Royston Crow League, 14th March 2009

The Hornets completely overwhelmed Knebworth with a positive and energetic display. In the end, it could quite easily have ended up in double figures, such was Hitchin’s total dominance. On any other day, Kai and Joel could have had a hat trick each.

Somerset started the scoring after 5 minutes. A Knebworth defender handled the ball on the edge of the area, Knebworth forgot to set up a wall and Somerset took advantage to rifle an unstoppable shot past the keeper. James made it 2 five minutes later, pouncing on a poor goal kick and steering a shot inside the left-hand post. It was 3-0 just before half time – a good run and cross from Joel sent up Vinay and he finished well.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Kane could have brought his homework to do such was his quiet time in goal, as Hitchin continued to pour forward. Vinay added his second with another cool finish to make it 4-0. Sam Hart shook off an ankle injury to return in an unfamiliar defensive role but still found time to add two more to his goal tally. His first one saw him tuck away the rebound after Ryan’s initial shot. His second goal was an audacious lob from about 30 yards that sailed over the keeper’s head to make it 6-0 and complete the rout

Team: Kane, Jonathan, Oliver, Kai, Vinay, Sam Hen, James, Somerset subs: lost count
