The Hurricanes braved Arctic conditions to deservedly record a second away win of the season. On an absolutely bitter morning at a frozen Knebworth it was a test of endurance for players and spectators alike and the boys showed good spirit to win. Hitchin were the better side throughout and could have won by more goals. Such was their dominance that Sam had a very quiet game in goal and had to be defrosted at half time and full-time.
Kai, Stephen and Oliver pushed forward to assist the strikers and the front three of Jonathan, Ryan and James were a constant threat to the Knebworth defence. James excelled as a lone striker, holding the ball up well and bringing other players into the attack. Ryan and Jonathan were energetic and committed and combined well for the decisive goal midway through the first half. Ryan made a great run down the left wing and Jonathan made a well-timed run into the box, sweeping the ball home for his first goal of the season.
More goals could have been added in the second half there were countless goalmouth scrambles in the Knebworth area but the ball just wouldn’t cross the line. They were never in any serious danger of conceding an equaliser and, in the end, it was a comfortable win.
