The latest generation of Hitchin footballers have had an enjoyable and very promising first season in the Royston Crow. They have emerged as one of the strongest sides in the division and, at time of writing, have just qualified for the season-ending Royston Crow League Cup tournament.
Overall, they have played 32 games this season - won 16, drew 5, lost 11, scoring 42 goals in the process. Sam Hartnack and William led the way with 16 and 9 respectively. Joel also chipped in a useful 5 goals. With Kane (3), Vinay (2) Daniel (2) and one each from Max, Patrick, Sam Henshaw, Jonathan and Ben, the goals were well spread throughout the team.
This only tells half the story. The emergence of the boys from the young Year 1s of last summer and the improvement in their skills, teamwork and understanding of the game has been fantastic to watch and Paul Smith and Iain Alderson take a lot of credit for nurturing the development of the squad.
Everyone has played their part. Kane and Sam Henshaw have both been a safe pair of hands between the posts. The defence was rock-solid before Christmas and after a mid-season dip, finished the season strongly with two clean sheets in the Royston Crow tournament. Congratulations to Sam Henshaw, Patrick, Stephen, Max and Kai. The midfield of Jonathan, Daniel, Vinay, Ben, Louis, James and Joshua play with great enthusiasm and provide excellent support for the forwards. Sam Hartnack and William are the teams’ Ronaldo and Rooney – Sam speedy, skilful and the top scorer, William competitive and impossible to knock off the ball. Joel is the team’s dead-ball expert and has chipped in some vital goals.
Well done boys for your enthusiasm and great team spirit!
