Hitchin Hornets 2 BSCFC Town 0
Royston Crow League B, 27th February 2011

The Hornets made it 4 wins in a row to move fourth in the Division B table with a hard-fought but ultimately deserved victory over a hard-working and spirited Stortford team. Whilst never hitting the heights achieved in their win over Letchworth last time out, they did enough to clinch victory.

The first ten minutes was a close game as both sides looked for openings, creating a number of half-chances. Hitchin took the lead midway through the half with a very well-made goal. Vinay exchanged passes with Alex and slotted a pass through to William rushing into the box. His firm shot cannoned off the post and keeper before nestling in the net to make 1-0. The lead was doubled shortly after with a carbon-copy finish as William again raced into the box – his strong shot sped under the keeper’s dive to make it 2-0.

The second half was a scrappier affair as Hitchin controlled the game without ever really looking to add to their lead. Through good defending and keeping from Jonathan and Sam, they recorded their fourth successive clean sheet meaning it is now nearly three hours of football since they last conceded – an excellent achievement.

Man of the match: - James was once again outstanding at the centre of a miserly defence but my MoM is William – a match-winning display of clinical finishing, strong-running and determined tracking-back – well done!

Team: - James, Jonathan, Sam Hen, William A, Alex, Ryan, Vinay
