Hitchin Hurricanes 3 Baldock 3
Royston Crow League A, 31st October 2010

After a game they could have lost and should have won, the Hurricanes had to settle for a deserved point after a magnificent contest at a soggy Ickleford.

Both teams settled quickly and the game was played at a fantastic pace from start to finish. Baldock caused problems down the right with their well-worked corners and went ahead when Hitchin failed to clear and a loose ball in the box was slammed home past Sam. Hitchin responded immediately. Will hunted down the ball in midfield and sent Joel clear on the right side and he looped a great shot over the keeper and into the top left corner. Joel then nearly made it 2-1 as a superb free-kick beat the keeper but cannoned back off the crossbar.

The second half started as the first had finished with both teams on the attack. Joel grazed the outside of the left-hand post after a great run and shot before Baldock went ahead again when, despite a terrific double-save from Sam, the rebound was knocked in. With five minutes to go and the Hurricanes close to the first home defeat in two years, the boys turned it around with a fantastic comeback. A Joel corner saw Kane time his run and leap superbly to bullet a header past the Baldock keeper and with the clock ticking, Joel burst into the area and clipped a superb finish over the keeper to make it 3-2. With seconds remaining, Baldock dramatically levelled as a free-kick from outside the box saw keeper Sam unsighted. He got a hand to the ball but couldn’t prevent it crossing the line to make the final shoreline 3-3.

Overall, it was a wonderful game between two teams who will be there or thereabouts at the top of the table this season.
