Hitchin produced the most complete and outstanding performance in their two –year history to deservedly beat Baldock. The visitors were no pushovers; they were a big, strong outfit and fully played their part in a high-quality game. Unfortunately, they were up against a team brimming with confidence.
Sam Henshaw was very secure in goal. His handling, on a skiddy surface with a greasy ball, was first-class and his improving goal kicks put real pressure on the Baldock defence. Max, Patrick and Kane were competitive, first to every ball and snuffed out attack after attack. Will, Sam and Joel combined brilliantly up front and never let Baldock settle.
After an even first ten minutes, Sam Hart chased down a defender and won possession. He exchanged passes with Joel, sprinted clear and finished coolly to put Hitchin 1 up. It was 2-0 just before half time with an outstanding goal. Will took a pass from Max and sent Joel clear on the right. He beat one defender and put a great ball right across the six-yard box, which was swept home by Sam, without breaking stride. It was done at such speed that the ball was in the back of the net before Baldock knew what had hit them!
Sam completed his hat-trick midway through the second-half, another clinical finish after being sent clear by Will. Sam then turned provider to set up Will on the left side of the box. Will beat his marker and sneaked the ball home from a tight angle to make it 4-0. Job done. Awesome!
