This was another game where the scoreline was a harsh reflection of a keenly-fought contest as the Hornets gave a good account of themselves against a team containing many of the Templars who had played in the first game.
Baldock got off to another fast start and were quickly 2-0 up, the first a very unfortunate own goal by Jonathan, the second a good finish after a fluent passing move had sliced through the Hornets defence. At this point, heads could have gone down and we could have been looking at a cricket score. This didn’t happen as the Hornets’ mounted a very spirited comeback. Ryan pulled a goal back, clipping the ball over the keeper after a clever pass from Vinay and Alex almost equalised when he hit the post on the stroke of half-time.
The Hornets continued to press forward in the second half but got caught on the break. Sam Hen made a fabulous double save, pushing the second shot onto the post but, from the rebound, Baldock made it 3-1. Still the Hornets refused to give up. Ryan hit the post and then shot just wide after being set up by a good run and pass from William A. Baldock then scored just before the end to make it 4-1.
Man of the match – A joint award this week – Ryan was involved in everything going forward. Jonathan bounced back from a tricky start with a terrific defensive display – full of alert covering and committed tackling.
Team – Sam Hen, Jonathan, Olly, Kai, William A, Benjamin, Alex, Ryan, Vinay
