Hitchin Hornets 2 Baldock Crusaders 2
Royston Crow League, 15th November 2008

A dramatic last-minute equaliser from Sam Hart salvaged a thoroughly deserved draw for the Hornets in an entertaining game at Baldock.

Top scorers Sam and Joel both featured in a positive line-up and Hitchin attacked from the first whistle, dominating the first half. Somerset and Sam Hart linked well to put the Baldock defence under pressure and they received great support from  Sam Hen and Jonathan. Sam Hart gave Hitchin a deserved lead halfway through the first half, racing clear and scoring from a rebound after the Baldock keeper saved his first shot.

Baldock made some substitutions and were more positive in a much more even second half. Defenders Joel and Max made some great challenges and interceptions but could not prevent Baldock equalising midway through the second half. The match was turned on its head with five minutes to go when Baldock went 2-1 up after a sweeping, cross-field move.

Full credit to the Hornets. They stayed positive and kept attacking and got their deserved reward via a tale of two Sams. Sam Hen broke clear into the penalty area. His goal bound effort was well saved by the Baldock keeper but in the ensuing scramble, Sam Hart forced the ball over the line.

This was the first draw of the season for either of the two Hitchin teams – and a brave, spirited comeback from the Hornets against a skilful Baldock team. Well done, boys!

Team: Ryan, Max, Joel, Sam Hen, Jonathan, Somerset, Sam Hart
